Honey & Pepper Sizzling Beef and vegetables

Beef and vegetables

Have you ever had “one of those days”? My morning started out great with a cool brisk hour long walk, but quickly went downhill. When I got home I decided to get the roast cooking in the crock pot. I debated about searing the meat and decided to go ahead as it would taste better. I put some oil into the skillet and set the oil down on the counter when I was finished with it. The skillet was hot and the meat was browning when I reached for something and knocked the uncapped bottle of oil over.  I looked at the oil flowing out of the bottle and thought “OK now what?” I wanted to mop the oil up fast before it reached areas that would cause more problems but I also needed to get the meat off the fire. What to do? I turned the burner off and moved the skillet to another burner and then grabbed a roll of paper towels. It took a whole roll before I was able to contain the problem. I finished searing the meat and put it in the crock pot along with some broth and onion soup mix. Eight hours later I was enjoying a great roast with my friends. Moral of the story: Even when things start to go wrong you can bring order back. Also…cap the bottles before you put them back on the counter.
